Mr. Wilbur Javis Jr.

On December 17, 1952, a baby boy was born to the late Willie Javis and Bernice Myers Javis and they named him Wilbur Javis, Jr. He was also called “Billy”, “Bill” and “Wild Bill”. When he was born his mom indicates that she knew he was born to be a worker as he was always helping her at an early age. At her age today, she continues to state that she was always so proud of her son. At an early age, Wilbur accepted Jesus Christ into his life. Wilbur loved fellowshipping with Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church and Cedar Creek A.M.E. Churches. Wilbur would always acknowledge GOD. He always started his prayer with, “Lord, Our Merciful Father” He was always willing and ready to offer a prayer during the Gibson’s family monthly meetings. On February 13, 1982, Pastor Nathaniel Harper, Sr. married Wilbur to the love of his life, Marjorie Gibson at the home of her parents the late Henry and Mary Gibson. Wilbur wanted to be married in the country as he loved country living. He truly loved his wife until her death, July 27, 2018 and he continued to love her until his death. In both of their illnesses, they were committed to helping each other. Now, they are both resting in Peace together with no pain nor worries. Wilbur spent a lot of time with his grandchildren. He wanted them to know that he loved them. Even though he was not able to interact with them as he would have liked because of his illness, he would smile when they walked through the door. Wilbur was a graduate of Buller Haven High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He would often reminisce about his classmates and did not find it robbery to visit his family and classmates in Connecticut. He would often pack up his family and drive them to his hometown for visits. He loved to drive. He was the family’s personal global positioning system (GPS) before GPS even existed. We could always depend on him for directions. Wilbur was one of the family’s best grill masters. Family and friends always looked forward to him cooking for all the family events. It was not uncommon for him to share his recipes with those who were not blessed to be the greatest cooks. Family members would reach out to “Billy”, and he found great joy in explaining to them how to prepare whatever dish they desired. His two favorite dishes to prepare were homemade lasagna and homemade sub sandwiches “grinders”. If you visited Billy and Marj’s home, you would always get a home-cooked meal with nothing but love. They always exemplified what true love was when you visited them. They would always share what they had expecting nothing in return, but another visit. Wilbur loved the out-of-doors! Gardening was one of Wilbur’s hobbies. Seeing the creations of God always kept him in a happy place. He loved planting vegetables and bringing them inside for his wife to cook with a smile. Playing baseball was one thing Wilbur and Marjorie had in common. Wilbur played for Richtex Bruins Baseball Team. His outfielder expertise and fast paced running skills gave the Bruins many successful wins. He was an awesome outfielder and short stop player. “Nothing was getting by Billy. "Wilbur “Billy” worked with his uncle at Javis Logging company. Wilbur had a plethora of information on how to run a successful business. He always exemplified great customer service skills. He became the owner and operator of Javis Logging company until retiring. He was employed with Owens Steel for numerous years. He also worked with Brown’s Logging Company for many years. “Billy” worked at Killian Road Elementary School for a period of time. Wilbur was also in the Army Reserve. He served our country well. Wilbur will always be remembered for his long engaging conversations and memory of different events, times, and dates of everything. Wilbur was predeceased by his beautiful and devoted wife, Marjorie Gibson Javis; a special sister, Kathy Javis; two loving brothers, Nathaniel “Jabo” Underwood and Kenneth Javis. Wilbur Javis, Jr. leaves a legacy of Love and Kindness. Those left to cherish his memories are: His loving caring mother, Bernice Myers Javis of Bridgeport, Ct.; a warm-hearted step-mother, Rose “Mae” Javis of North Carolina; a loving son, Derrick T. (Tanisha) Gibson of North Augusta, SC.; three beautiful daughters, Shawanda Javis, Blythewood, SC, Latisha (Jamie) Allen Charlotte, NC and Tanya Stewart, Bridgeport, Ct; a sister, Sharon “Nissie” (Anthony) McIntyre of North Carolina; two brothers, Alvin Javis, Florence, SC. and Ronnie Underwood of Bridgeport, Ct; four wonderful brothers-in-law, Robert Lee (Janette) Gibson, James (Mona) Gibson of Columbia, SC, Carl (Shelia) Gibson of Blythewood, SC and Richard Gibson of Columbia, SC.; a sister-in-law, Deborah (Anthony) Lockard of Columbia, SC; sixteen grandchildren and six great grands all of whom loved him dearly and will miss him. Wilbur had so many friends that loved him to include beautiful aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. We are thankful for the time God gave us Wilbur and we will forever have him in our hearts. Please leave the Javis family your condolences and prayers. Interment to follow in Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery Richtex.
