Mrs Virginia Durant Woods

Deaconess Virginia Durant Woods Was born September 5, 1929 in Lynchburg, SC to the late Josephine Durant and Charlie Wilson. She departed this life November 10, 2016 to be with the Lord. Virginia was educated in the public schools of Lee County. There, she met the love of her life, the late Edmond “E. W.” Woods. They married at an early age and right away the legacy began; children after children after children until the number of completion was sixteen. She was a country girl at heart but often said she did not want to live there ever again. She loved to cook and was very very good at it. On any given day, you could stop by and she would have a nice pot of one of her favorite dishes, stewed chicken wings and chicken feet. She was known for her delicious dressing with giblet gravy as well as her hot biscuits. She loved cooking for her family especially Thanksgiving Holiday. Virginia wore hats of many titles. She was “Mutt” or “Gal” to her late husband, “Mama” to her children, “Grandma” to her grands, “Me-Ma” to the great and great great grands and was called “Ginger” and “Gingerbread “by her friends. She loved the Lord, her family, Pastor and church family. While attending Friendship, she served as a member of the Deaconess and W.I.S.E. Ministries, Pastor’s Aid, Missionary Society, Kitchen Committee, Baptism Ministry, the Musical, Mass and Jubilee Choirs, she was also a member of the St. Anna’s Park Senior Ministries and of course her beloved “Golden Girls Sisterhood”. She was willing to serve where ever she was needed. She worked for thirty plus years as a nanny and great help for the Savitz family who loved her. For just as many years, she was head cook and supervisor at Manor Care of Columbia before she retired. Mrs. Woods was known to have a political mind and cared about the affairs of the World around us. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband and six sons. Left to cherish precious memories are: eight daughters, Geneva Patterson, Ann Sumter, Calisteen Faust, Barbara (Laverne) Mack, Brenda (Larry) Richardson, Vickie Daniels, Marie Woods and Karen Heller all of Columbia, SC; two sons, Calvin (Evelyn) Woods also of Columbia, SC and Curtis Woods of Monroe, GA; her grandchildren, who she knew all by name; Alisha, Tory (Tracye), Patrick (Sherani), Jamey, Sr. (Lawanda), Curtis, Jr. (Viola), Harold (Carmelita), Crissy, Chante’ (Antonio), Amber, Aleecya, Cory, Allison, Shameka (John), Krista, Damon, Rory, Jedediah and Courtney, Garin, Emmett, Jamellow, Tasha (Rod), Mariah and Sharnecia; her great grands, Avari, Simone, Shaneka, Michquel, Diondra, Ayana, Sterling, Aaron, Addison, Azreal, Shania, Jasmine, TyShawn, Jordan, Kiara, Milan, Malcolm, Lexie, Peyton, Lorin, Jamey, Jr., Jacory, Destini, Tierica, Rod, Jr., Carmello, Carter, Aaliyah, Alexis, Angel, K.B. and Anthony; great great grands, Christian, Malayiah, Tyler, Taylor, Ariana, Caiden and three she nick named “the three little bugs”, John, Jaleya and Juwelz; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4-7
