MSGT (Ret) Tommie Lee Shuler

Tommie Lee Shuler, was born February 28, 1948 in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He was the first son born to Walter George Shuler and Bessie Mae Paler Shuler. Tommie was educated in the public schools of Richland County, the first school Tommie attended was Waverly Elementary. Tommie Shuler was the first African American male to integrate the all white school, Columbia High, in which he graduated in 1967. He played the trumpet in high school where he had the opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl in California. He left high school, entering into the military, the United States Marine Corps. He did his boot camp in Paris Island. He serviced in Vietnam and the Gulf War. After retirement, he attended Midlands Technical College, where he graduated with a Business degree. He was a man that loved his family and always looked forward to coming home to Columbia, South Carolina. He loved music and his favorite music was jazz. He was a man that loved all sports, his favorite to play was golf. Tommie Shuler loved to have fun and always came with meat for the grill, a cooler, and a smile. The joy in his heart will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by, his wife, Annie Ladonia Stevenson Shuler, a grandson, a sister, Dorothy Ann Shuler. Tommie Shuler leaves to cherish fond and precious memories; his daughter, Shawnta L. Shuler; his son, Anthony L. Shuler; two grandchildren, Dante and Alexis Shuler; his mother, Bessie Mae Shuler Braxton; five brothers, Walter George Shuler, George Walter Shuler, Jimmy Shuler, Melvin Shuler, Tracie Todd; three sisters, Janie R. Shuler Fulton, Margaret A. Shuler Watson, Sheila Todd; and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, aunts, cousins and military friends, which all will join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure. The Shuler family acknowledges with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Evangelist Maryann Freeman, officiating. Interment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel.
