Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229. Interment will take place in The Fort Jackson National Cemetery. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday October 12, 2021 at Columbia VA Health Care System. Mr. Myers was educated in the Florence County Schools system, graduating from Wilson High School. He also achieved an Associate in Business Management from Columbia Commercial College in August 1977. Mr. Myers served honorably in the United States Army and National Guard for 32 years. Mr. Myers married the love of his life, Mattie McDowell Myers and to this holy covenant of matrimony, would span over 51 years. Mr. Myers accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of Rock Hill AME Church where he was a member of the Men's Choir and served as Deacon for twenty-eight years. He also was a associate member of Daniel's Circle located on Fort Jackson. Mr. Myers was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations such as: Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Three Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star; Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars; Humanitarian Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with One Hourglass; Non0commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral Three Device; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Combat Infantryman Badge; Vietnam Campaign Medal, South Carolina Active State Service Medal (15 years); South Carolina Governor's Unit Citation and the South Carolina Guardsman Retirement Medal. Mr. Myers leaves to cherish him his loving wife, Mrs. Mattie Myers; daughter, Lakeisha Myers (Arizona); son, Anthony Myers of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Mary Ellis, Martha Timmons, and Gretha Myers all of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
