Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Friendship Baptist Church. 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. Pastor A. A. Dicks, Sr., officiating. Interment to follow in the Saint Phillips A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel. Mr. Peter William Whitman, affectionately known as "Pete", was born June 20, 1951 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Loray Whitman. Peter departed this life on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 6:33 a.m. at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Pete was educated in the public schools of Richland County. Pete was united in holy matrimony to Vivian Ann Reed, on October 30, 1971. To this union, three children were born. He joined Saint Phillips African American Methodist Episcopal Church in Eastover, South Carolina. Peter enjoyed repairing automobiles. He was employed as a mechanic at European Connection in Columbia, South Carolina. He later became the owner of European Connection. Peter was a retired Businessman, He leaves to cherish fond memories: his wife of 50 years, Vivian Ann Reed Whitman; his children, Peter C. (Felecia) Whitman, Lugoff, South Carolina, Timothy A. (Gwendolyn) Whitman, and Eugenia Annette Whitman, both of Hopkins, South Carolina; a special "friend" whom they reared like a son, Marvin (Virginia) Godson, Columbia, South Carolina; one sister, Edna Mitchell, Columbia, South Carolina; five sisters-in-law and four brother-in-law, Lelia M. Reed, Columbia, South Carolina, Eugene L. (Catherine) Reed, Sylvia (Melvin) Davis, Harry L. Reed all of Eastover, South Carolina, and Lillie A. (Melvin) Edmonds, Hopkins, South Carolina, and Linda A. Reed, Columbia, South Carolina, four grandchildren, Tasia, Kelsi, Nicholas, and Leidyn Whitman, one great grandson, Taylor Whitman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
