Ms. Narvis Houseal Cook

Narvis Houseal Bookman Cook was born on September 24, 1932 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Leroy Sr. and Daisy Miller Houseal. She departed this life on November 5, 2023, at the blessed age of 91. She was the last of the original Houseals. Narvis was a graduate of C. A Johnson High School where she received her high school diploma. She continued her education in the medical field at Richland Northeast High School as a nursing assistant and she then became a certified Mental Health Specialist and was employed at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health where she devoted 35 plus years and retired. Narvis was a devoted member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Pomaria, South Carolina. She was the Sunday School Superintendent and a active member of the choir. Narvis loved the out-of-doors and was best known for her flower and vegetable gardens. Narvis was proceded in death by her parents, Leroy Sr., and Daisy Houseal; sisters, Mildred Housel, Shirley Hicks, and Thelma Williams; two brothers, Malverse Houseal and Leroy Houseal, Jr; three children, William E. Bookman, Melvin Cook and Beverly Joan Tucker; one granddaughter, Shauntel Tina Romey; one great-grandson, Trenton Gantt, Jr. Narvis leaves to cherish her precious memories, daughters, Deborah Ann Stevens of Deltona, FL, Ernestine (Larry) Romey, Darlene (Joe) Cook and Sheryll Narvis (Eugene) Solomon of Columbia, SC; loving grandchildren, Rena, Kevin, Stacey, Carmella, Terrelle, Selecia, Iyannah, Sylvia, Tonya, Larry Jr, Kecia, Jasmine, Trenton, Pashion, Tiffany, Katlyn, Eugene III, Earl Tucker, David Tucker, Travis Tucker and Kimberly Johnson; thirty-five great-grandchildren; one aunt-in-law, Willie L Houseal; one loving god daughter, Annette Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be 12 noon, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1945 Hope Station Road, Pomaria, South Carolina 29126. The Reverend Kenneth Charles, Pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Cook will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time.
