Services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 1:00 P.M at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, located 2548 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Interment will follow in The Promised Land Cemetery. He was the son of the late Hamp Gilliam and Josephine Brooks-Leaks. He departed this life on May 8, 2020. Leander graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to Brooklyn, NY where he lived with his sister Loretta Mitchell. This is where he met his long-time friend and late love of his life Dora Ivery Guider who stayed by side for over 50 years. He was employed by Ideal Precisions Meter Company for over 40 years, then retired. Pop sung on the Jubilee Choir, played tennis up to the age of 55, enjoyed old music, walking and talking with his friends. He loved sports; his favorite team was the New York Knicks and watching tennis matches. His favorite TV show was “Jeopardy”. He loved to love on people. He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life and his brother, Lester Mitchell, Jr. Left to cherish his legacy and loving memory are his devoted four children, daughter Robbie J. Ivery (William) Harris, Doron K. (Tenisha) Guider, Michael Brooks and Michael Davis Guider. He was a loving grandfather to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Mitchell and Robin Brown; two brothers, Larry Mitchell and Lewis Mitchell; also to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews and a host of friends of New York and Georgia.
