Ms. Katie Johnson Fore

The Inevitable Milestone of the Transitioning Phase “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die…” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2 Katie Fore entered into eternal rest on November 11, 2022, at her home in Blythewood, South Carolina, after a short illness. Katie, a daughter of the late Christine Ivey and the late Leslie Johnson, was born March 30, 1940, in Weldon, North Carolina. Katie was the youngest of five siblings. Due to the unfortunate death of her biological parents, Katie had to reside with her Aunt, Beatrice Ivey Edwards and Uncle, Roger Edwards. She grew up with eight cousins who became her extended brothers and sisters. She attended John Armstrong High School in Halifax County, North Carolina, and graduated in 1957. Katie had a yearning to see the world beyond the tobacco fields of Halifax County, North Carolina. Her real-life education began when she decided to join her sister in Newark, New Jersey in the early 60s. While in New Jersey, she met and married Jimmie Fore to find out that he was from the southern town of Latta, South Carolina. Both were seeking a new frontier and found that they had similar goals and interests; they fell in love, got married, and to this union, four children were born: Glenn, Keith, Marinda, and Jerry. At an early age, Katie joined Quankey Missionary Baptist Church. Upon moving to Marion, she joined Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Later, Katie returned home and reunited with Quankey Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Battle. In 1969, the family decided to leave the city life and return to the country life she left; a familiar environment in Marion, South Carolina. They decided to call Marion home and raised their four beautiful children. In the early ’70s, Katie began working as a Quality Control Specialist at Hanes also known as L’eggs Products. Remember the pantyhose that was packaged in an “egg-shaped container?” Yep, that was Ms. Katie! She successfully ensured women all around the world had legs that presented a sheer, smooth and elegant appearance. To all the women who lived in this era, “You’re Welcome!” Katie retired from L’eggs Products in the late ’80s and returned to her humble beginnings in Halifax County, North Carolina. She had a love of caring for people and realized her true passion was working as a certified nursing assistant. Katie’s love of caring for people and families led her to volunteer time to work at William R. Davies Middle School; being around children was her second love. In her final years, she wanted to be closer to her sons, daughter, and grandchildren. Katie had so much love for her children, grandchildren, and family, the yearning was overwhelming so she decided to purchase a home in Blythewood, South Carolina to be near the family so she could continue to nurture them. Katie’s life ended surrounded by the love and peace of her beautiful home, her children, and grandchildren. Katie is preceded in death by a brother, the late Hayward Johnson, and a sister, Lucille Speight. Those left with beautiful memories are: three loving sons, Glenn Fore of the home, Keith (Tina) Fore, of Woodbridge, Virginia, Jerry Fore of Blythewood, South Carolina, a loving daughter, Marinda Y. Alexander, of Blythewood, South Carolina; two sisters, Joyce Ramsey, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Doris Campbell, of Hampton, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Emari Alexander, Adira Alexander, Little Jerry, Abrisha and Marques Fore, Camille Williams, Christen Ross; eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The Fore family acknowledges with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. A. A.
