Mr. John Henry Grant

Mr. John Henry Grant, 81, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. On February 27, 1943, God blessed the late Thomas and Elise Evans Grant with their third son, John Henry Grant. John retired from South Carolina Department of Mental Health as a Nursing Assistant ad Columbia Bethlehem Community Center Daycare as a Custodian. He completed his education in Richland County School District Two at Bethel High School, Blythewood, South Carolina. "Henry", as he was affectionately known by many was raised in a Christian home. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. He was an active member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church until his health failed. He loved God, family, football and cooking. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Clemson Tigers. He really loved cooking for his family. After his beloved mother passed, he opened his home to family and friends for all holiday dinners and fellowshipping. He was blessed to welcome his fourth generation into his home. God and being with family was the joy of his life. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Grant and Elise Evans Grant; sisters, Mary Alice Grant and Rachel Grant Taylor; brothers, Joseph Grant, Daniel Grant and Willie "Bill" Grant. Henry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving wife, Dorothy Haynes Grant; children, Dorothy Ann Haynes, Michael Haynes, Reginald (Wanda) Haynes Shanell Grant, and Trina (Abraham) Johnson; granddaughter reared in the home, Shamica (Eugene) McMicheal; siblings, Pauline McCormick, the eldest, Harry T. Grant, the youngest son, Minnie Grant English, the youngest; grandchildren, Shan'Tiara, Tycadja, dayterrius, Briana, Reginald, Jr., Tawanda, Lorenzo, Denzel, Sr., Jelisa, Michael, Maria, LasShonda; great grandchildren, Ariah, Tyjaye, Jayceon, Zilliyah, Zahiam, Xzayiah, Titus, Kemberlyn, Zy'Asia, KuaZhon, Aubrey, Zion, Khamaurie, Tariq, Desmond, Naveah, Zariah, Mariyah, Zoey, Shanya, Denzel, Jr. and Robert; great great-grandaughter, Kaniya, and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be 12 noon, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. The Reverend Dr. Ernest C. Etheredge, officiating. Interment to follow in the Columbia Memorial Gardens. The Grant family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Thursday, June 13, 2024 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home.
