Mr. Henry Dial Chandler, 79, of Columbia, South Carolina has entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2026 at VA Dorn Hospital. On September 15, 1946, in Ridge Spring, South Carolina, he was the sixth child and first son to Dial and Jessie Mae Chandler. He was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a proud 1965 graduate of "The Castle on the Hill", C. A. Johnson High School. He was thereafter drafted into the United States Army. Everyone who met "HD" felt like an old friend. He brought laughter wherever he went and had a gift for giving nicknames that stuck for life. Alwyas sharp in his style and strong in his faith, Henry Dial was both gentleman and a fighter at heart. He loved finer things and never hesitated to speak the truth. Known as a "jack of all trades", "HD" could fix just about anything and if he couldn't, he would either learn how or call on someone who could. Though he put on a tough front, his kindness ran deep, leaving a lasting mark on everyone he met. He has been a longtime member of St. Paul Baptist Church. On May 25, 1966, he married the love of his life, Gloria D. Childs, whom he lovingly called, "Blue". To this union, three children were born, and many were reared. Sons, a dughter, and a joyful, ever growing family of grandchildren, great - grandchildren, nieces and nephews and neighborhood kids. For more than 55 years, their home was a haven and their partnership, 'HD & Gloria' became a cherished legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dial and Jessie Mae Chandler; a brother, Rawls E. Chandler; five sisters, Lousie C. Hayes, Shirley C. Thomas, Frances E. Chandler, Jessie Derotha Lindsay and Georgianna Alvaraz. He leaves to cherish his legay, his wife, Gloria D. Chandler; daughter, Quanya L. Chandler; sons, Henry D Chandler, Jr., Robert G. (Louise) Chandler, Sr.; 'exclusive' children, P. Rodell Roberts, Lisa A. (Bernard) Jones, Kieosha Q. Gilmore, Tiffany M. (Melvin) Givens, Robert G. Chandler, Jr., Tearia L. (Michael) Price, Frederick L. Johnson, III and Harmony A. Johnson; two sisters, Carolyn Williams and Phyllis McQueen; a brother, Willie Lee (Felina) Chandler, Sr. and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and newphews. Funeral service will be 12 noon, Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Saint Paul Baptist Church, 4517 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Interment to follow 9:00 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2026 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Reverend Kendrick Grimsley, Pastor, officiant.
