Mrs. Geneva Rosetta Woods Patterson "GP"

Ms. Geneva Rosetta Patterson, 75, of Columbia, South Carolina has entered into eternal rest on June 28, 2025 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Geneva "Nee of "GP" Patterson, as she was affectionately known, was born on March 27, 1949, in Lynchburg, South Carolina to the late Edmond and Virginia Woods. She was the third oldest of 16 children. She grew up in Columbia, South Carolina where she attended public schools and was a proud 1968 graduate of C. A. Johnson High School where she was an amazing trombone player in the marching band. Geneva graduated from Rutledge College with honors and retired fom state government after 28 years where she was a known and admired by colleagues, elected officials, community leaders, and everybody that came into her presence. She loved people and people loved her. Geneva was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, where she made sure her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were introduced to the Lord. She loved her pastor, The Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr. and her entire church family. Her giving heart and gift to the world was demostrated with love in the form of feeding people. Baking and cooking were both her love language and ministry to the world. As an entrepreneur, Geneva catered hundreds of weddings, parties, and community events for elected officials, churches, family and friends. She loved to be in the kitchen. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Pat" Patterson whom she loved like no other; her parents, and siblings, Roosevelt Durant, Brookie Lee Woods, and Vickie Renea Daniels. She is survived by four children, Alisha "Lisha" Patterson, Torijano "Tank" Patterson, Patrick "Coody (Sherani) Patterson and Jamey "Punky" Patterson; eight grandchildren, Simone Patterson, Malcolm Patterson, Jacory Patterson, Shaneka Patterson, Peyton Patterson, Lorin Patterson, Jamey Patterson, II; three great grandchildren, John Pearce, Jaleya Pearce, Juwelz Pearce; eight siblings, Phyllis Sumter, Calisteen Faust, Barbara Jean ( Bishop Laverne) Mack, Calvin (Minister Evelyn) Woods, and Karen Heller and a host of other loving relatives. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. Pastor A. A. Dicks, Sr., officiating. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery. Mrs. Patterson will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time.
