Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at The Promised Land Cemetery, located 1740 Cushman Drive, Columbia, SC 29204. Dora “Mae” Ivery Guider, beloved partner, mother, sister, friend, decorator, fashionista, and overall DIVA was born June 20, 1943 to Florine and Willie James Ivery in Columbia, SC. On Monday, April 13th, 2020, our dearly beloved angel transitioned peacefully in the one place that gave her the most bliss, her beautiful home. At the tender age of 15, she moved to Boston, MA then later moved to Brooklyn New York. There she met her longtime friend and love Leander “Leon” Brooks, who stayed by her side over fifty years. Dora loved to love on people. She was a strong, determined, fiercely independent woman, who loved to make people laugh. Her nurturing spirit and selfless love poured out profusely to those that needed love the most. She was a well-known caregiver for years, gaining several “daughters and sons” who affectionately refer to her as their mother. Dora was also a trendsetter and mastered the craft of interior design. She developed a sophisticated sense of style that followed her throughout her lifetime, and prided herself in teaching others. She loved to entertain house guests with her delectable dishes sharing her love of food with her family and countless people in the community. She specialized in making dishes such as curry goat, cow foot soup, and her infamous spaghetti that was second to none. There was nothing Dora could not cook, decorate, or design. She truly had a gifted eye to turn something so simple into a luxurious masterpiece. She was preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 2 sisters; Nicholas, Munchie Lee, Cleveland, and Junior Ivery; Mary Streeter, & Sylvia Rhett. To cherish her legacy and loving memory are her devoted 3 children, daughter Robbie Jennette Ivery Harris (William), and two sons Doron K. Guider (Tenisha), and Michael Guider; stepson Michael Brooks. She was a loving grandmother to Krystal & William Harris II, Doron Jr, Payton, Camryn, Kaitlyn, & Bailey Guider, and three great grandchildren; two sisters Beverly Ivery Miller (SC) & Pricilla Ivery Coleman (Randy) (SC); also to cherish her memory are her special nieces Dora Scott and Cynthia Ivery; her caregiver and close friend Dienabou Niane; extended New York family; Jean, Tina, Joycee, Rhonda, Cathy, Gwen, Aida, Sherell, Wanda, Cynthia & Ms. Louise. Most importantly Dora loved the Lord, and lived a generous and upright life. She was sure to sow seeds of love to everyone that crossed her path. Though our hearts remain heavy at this time, we know and feel Dora’s spirit with us. Her style, grace, and love shown toward all mankind will be deeply missed by her countless nieces, nephews, and friends who love and celebrate her.
