Mrs. Catherine Annette Williams Gilliam Palmer

Catherine Annette Williams Gilliam Palmer was born on April 3, 1937 in Barnwell, South Carolina to the late Florence Williams and Tearges Hankerson. Catherine passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving children. Catherine graduated from Macedonia High School, Class of 1954 in Blackville, South Carolina, and Benedict College, Class of 1958 in Columbia, South Carolina. She also took some business courses at Midlands Technical College. She was employed by Big Star Grocery, Roses, and her last employment, Rite-Aide Pharmacy, where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement. Catherine was a dedicated member of Second Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as Church Clerk for many, many years. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Order of the Eastern Star. Catherine enjoyed working in her yard, displaying beautiful flowers all along her yard and porch. She also enjoyed singing, but most importantly spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her great-grandmother, Julia “Ms. Link” Dunbar, who raised her, her sister, Daisy Peeples, and her brother, Harold Lee Price. Catherine leaves to cherish her loving memories: five children, Shawne Colon, Charlotte, North Carolina, Signe Davis, Columbia, South Carolina, Simone (Rudolph) Williams, Newport News, Virginia, Wray (Teri) Gilliam, Columbia South Carolina, and Sara Gilliam, Charlotte, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Baxley of Barnwell, South Carolina and Kim Hankerson-Steelman, Roanoke, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, and close friends who will dearly miss her. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at Second Calvary Baptist Church, 1110 Mason Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr., officiating. Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023 and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at A. A.
