Mr. Calvin Martin

Mr. Calvin "Poola" Martin son of the late Lula Mae Martin was born February 4, 1958 in Columbia, South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on August 2, 2022. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he attended the schools in Lexington One. Calvin worked for Blue Ribbon Cab Company, Godfrey's Auto Salvage and Dave's Repair. For many years and prior to his unexpected illness, he was working for Leo & Dor Company. His passion and love were repairing cars. Calvin was baptized at a very early age and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Cayce, South Carolina. He was a friend to many, and never met a stranger. He was a very caring and giving person that would help family and friends far and near, even when he was not feeling his best. Calvin was preceded in death by his mother; grandson, Devin Ravenell; brother, Michael C. Williams, Sr.; a sister, Miriam Brown. Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories are: his wife of 39 years, Eva Z. Martin; his sons, Calvin Ravenell, Charles (Christina) Jackson of Columbia, South Carolina; daughters, Linda Ravenell of Barnwell, South Carolina, ShaWanda Ravenell of Columbia, South Carolina and Anita (Alvin Washington) Jackson of Hopkins, South Carolina; brother, Robert Martin of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Betty R. Williams of Cayce, South Carolina, Myra (Anthony) Shelton, Naomi Shelton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Venetta Wilson of Douglasville, Georgia, Jamesetta Samuels of Madisonville, Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Sam Shabazz of Columbus, Ohio, Marion (Jerri) Stevenson of Earlington, Kentucky, Tyrone Townsend of Madisonville, Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brothers from another mother, Amos McKenzie, Jimmy McCall, John Haynes, and Ricky Robinson; a very dear sister friend, Reverend Alfreda Crum and a host of aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends whom he loved dearly. The Martin family acknowledges with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Bishop Elect Joseph Ellison, Presiding, Pastor Alice Ellison, Eulogist.
