Ms. Ann Hunt

Ann Hunt was born on March 4, 1933, in Glen Cove, New York. She was the beloved daughter of the late George and Florence (Clements) Holly. She passed away on July 30, 2023, at MUSC Forest Drive Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She was 90 years young. She was educated in the Glen Cove school system. She married the late Charles Daniel Hunt on October 4, 1958, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, at 25 years old. In February 1967, Ann, Charles and Towana moved to their new home in Verona, New Jersey. She enjoyed hosting many Thanksgiving holidays with the family. Everyone also came from Long Island. She was known for making her baked beans and sweet potato pies and chitterlings. She was an excellent cook. She worked at a company called Bendix for years. She also worked for another company that made parts for the government for the government which included F-14s. She was good at reading schematics and soldering. About 20 years ago she moved to Columbia, South Carolina, to help her daughter with her handicapped son. She always said she was just here temporarily but never left. She met so many friends with her strong, vibrant personality. She also worked at Publix Supermarket for many years doing the Aprons demo cooking. She loved that job because she was able to interact with the public. They would share their life stories and problems with her. Ann loved playing bingo up north and down south. She was so skilled at bingo that she could play 20 boards or more on short games without using bingo chips. People were amazed to watch her especially when she won. She loved hopping in the car and going to Atlantic City to Harrah’s. If you didn’t want to stay long, you sure didn’t want to go with her. She stayed all night into the morning at times. She was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan but she came out each week to watch the games with the NYG4 Life SC fan club. Other hobbies were knitting and reading. Ann was a big traveler. She has been to Lake Tahoe, Jamaica, St. Maarten, French Riviera, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Norway, Sweden and several states in the US. She attended many events with her family in South Carolina. She really enjoyed attending house music events with Columbia House Music Project South Carolina, going to Charlotte for house music events as well. She also enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach, Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. She was always on the go. She loved being with family and friends and doing things together. She was always there for her family and helped any way she could. Fond memories of Ann will live on and be celebrated by her daughter, Towana Allen; three grandchildren, Rashan Hunt, Chante’ Allen, and Khalis Allen; six great grandchildren, Shalis Hunt, Alexis Hunt, Laila Hunt, LaVar Allen, Lisa Allen and Laiah Allen-Gilyard; two sisters, Joan Holly and Betty Edwards; a brother, Donald Holly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom will miss her dearly. Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Pastor A. A. Dicks, Sr. officiating.
