Ms. Alice Hazel Lee Baker

Alice Hazel Lee Baker, 94, was born to Felton and Nancy Armstrong Lee on April 5th, 1930 in Anderson, South Carolina. Shedeparted this life at her residence on January 19th, 2025. Ms. Baker was one of ten children born to this very close-knit family who made their home in Anderson, South Carolina. She was brought up in a God-fearing household, where faith was the cornerstone of daily living, and attended Welfare Baptist Church, fostering a deep and enduring connection to her faith. She attended the public schools of Anderson County and obtained her Bachelors of Education at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. During her early adult years, Alice was a school teacher in the states of South Carolina and New York. After leaving the profession of teaching, Alice devoted her time to rearing her children. Alice was an extremely lively person who made her presence known. She loved to attend Prisma (Palmetto) Senior Care on Laurel Street in Columbia, SC, where she enjoyed playing bingo, listening to church service, and coloring. She believed in family and loved to attend gatherings at her sons’ homes or the Lizard’s Thicket. She also loved music and was ready to carry a tune every chance she got. Alice enjoyed traveling and would often accompany her daughter, Meledy and granddaughter, Jazmine, whom she resided. She was predeceased by her former husband, Leroy Baker Sr., her parents, and nine siblings. She is survived by three sons, Fredrick (Verdell) Baker of Charlotte, North Carolina, Leroy (Hattie Martin) Baker, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Donnell Baker of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter, Meledy Baker of Columbia, South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Jazmine Baker and Michael Baker, both of Columbia, South Carolina, Amanda Davis, Brittiney (Lance) Tucker, Cayla Baker, and Kuhshaun Baker, all of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dr. Dreana (Quinton) Holloway of Redlands, California; three great-grandchildren: Heaven Tucker, Milàn Tucker, and Peyton Tucker, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr. officiating. Entombment to follow in the a Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2025 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, January 25, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home.
