MSGT William Henry Haynie Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia. Interment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2014 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Master Sgt. William Haynie Jr. entered into rest on Friday September 12, 2014. Bill was born on May 24, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William Henry Haynie, Sr. and Loretta Smith Haynie. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 after graduating from Carver Vocational Technical School (Baltimore). His 20- year military career included tours of duty in Germany, South Koream and Vietnam, and afforded him the opportunity to graduate from Columbia College (Columbia, MO) in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in General studies. He retired from military service in 1976 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He also was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He wore many hats including that of a bank manager, private investigator, and claims investigator (South Carolina Department of Human Affairs). Bill married Janie Gilmore from Columbia, SC in 1990 and remained married until the date of his death. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Janie; his children, Sharon, Michael, Michelle, Keith, Aisha abd Kesi; his step-children, Carmen Glenn and Jermaine Gilmore; his siblings, Gerald (Ingrid), Paul Haynie and Rosalind (Henry) Bailey; an aunt, Nannie Smith; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia are in charge of these arrangements.
