Mr. William Howard Davis Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. William Howard Davis “Dave”, as he was affectionately known, was born June 22, 1923 in Winnsboro, South Carolina to the late Eddie and Thomasina Davis. He was called Home by his heavenly Father on February 5, 2022. Dave attended the Winnsboro’s public schools, and upon graduating from high school, enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in World War II (in Europe). After completing his duties in the military, he matriculated and graduated from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1955, Dave married his childhood sweetheart, Sara W. Hubbard, and moved to Columbia, where he lived for the remainder of his life. As a civilian, he worked and retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Dave was an avid piano player and drummer. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, telling jokes, and will be well remembered for his upbeat spirit and chuckle. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Isabelle Elizabeth Watkins; and two brothers, Eddie Davis, Jr and Carlton Davis. Left to cherish and honor his life: his wife of 67 years, Sara H. Davis; two stepsons, Robert E. “Bobby” Hubbard of Washington, D.C. and Harold D. “Beanie” Hubbard (Vicki) of Chesapeake, Virginia; three grandchildren, Tamara Thompson (Gary) of Plano, Texas, Ryan Hubbard of Marietta, Georgia, and Christopher Scott of Chesapeake,Virginia; four great-grandchildren; a nephew, William Eugene Watkins (Nancy) of California; two nieces, Clevonne L. Turner (John) of Tennessee, and Lynette A. Watkins of Tennessee; three very dedicated caregivers, Sandra Gortman, Evelyn Jones, and Ronald “Ronnie” McMillan; and a host of other loving relatives and friends of whom will miss him dearly. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Reverend Ronald J. McMillian, officiating. Interment to follow in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Public Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022 at A. A.
