Mr. Thomas Elmore Jr. 82, formerly of Shelby, NC entered into rest on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia are in charge of these services. Mr. Thomas Elmore Jr. was born June 23, 1933 in Shelby, North Carolina to the late Thomas and Mary Grier Elmore, Sr. Thomas graduated Cleveland High School in Shelby and continued his education earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Elmore entered the United States Army where he served his country honorably. He worked tirelessly as foreman for Artelier Lighting in Garfield, New Jersey, Royce Chemical and Anchor Continental. When he relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, Thomas worked for the City of Columbia Water Division and the Richland County School District One. He retired after seventeen years of dedicated service at age seventy-nine. Mr. Elmore, Jr. was a member of Henry Williams Lodge #024 and Morelight Lodge #529 wheere he became Worshipful Master. He was Grand Worthy Patron and Chaplain of the state of South Carolina. Thomas was introduced to masonary at Hiram #19 Modern Free and Accepted Masons of the World in Patterson, New Jersey and was a professional baseball player for a Spanish team in New Jersey called the "Las Tres Antillas". Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, Ann Marie and Terry Coleman, parents, a sister, Lucille Elmore Berry and a brother, James "Jasbo" Grier. Left to cherish precious memories are: his son, Curtis Coleman, Sr. and Jerome Coleman, who was reared as a son, both of New Jersey; a daughter, Deaconess Donna Elmore-Wise (Deacon Frank Joseph) of Florida; twenty-six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a great great grandchildren; a sister, Stephany Elmore Leddetter of North Carolina; two brothers, Marshall and Carmie L. Elmore, Jr.; two he esteemed as daughters, Minister Anna V. Stewart of Georgia and "Elaine" Washington of South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
