Elder Solomon E. Brown Jr.

June 17, 1959 - October 10, 2019

In Columbia, South Carolina on June 17, 1959, God blessed the union of Bishop Solomon Edward and Nancy Sue Gary Brown, Sr. with their youngest of four children, Solomon Edward Brown, Jr. He transitioned on October 10, 2019 to be with the Lord. Educated in the Richland County Public School System, Solomon graduated from Columbia High School, home of the Capitals, with vocational training in Auto Mechanics. Following the Christian teachings of his parents at a very young age, Solomon grew up recognizing the importance of honoring God with his life and his substance. He was later appointed Elder by his father and Bishop of The Living Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., the church established by his parents on Lykesland Trail in Hopkins, South Carolina. Solomon’s responsibilities included overseeing all aspects of the building and its grounds. Years later, after the passing of his parents, Solomon was elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and he remained in that position throughout his lifetime. The spirit of entrepreneurship resonated with Solomon after leaving employment with the University of South Carolina as its groundskeeper of the football field. He established Brown’s Lawn and Grounds Maintenance Company that proudly served the Lake Murray housing community, as one of his many clients. As his business continued to expand, his entrepreneurial path took an unfortunate turn when he was faced with significant health challenges. Solomon’s journey through life also included the birth of his beautiful daughter, Jennifer Brown, his marriage and the rearing of Tiffany Brown, and Travis and Edward Meyers. Solomon’s lively personality commanded respect and garnered attention for his humorous storytelling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Solomon Edward and Nancy Brown, Sr.; a brother-in-law, Harry McGilberry; and nephew, Bryant A. Brown. Solomon’s life of service and love for others will live in the hearts and minds of his Daughter, Jennifer; Tiffany, Travis, and Edward; a brother, Leon; sisters, Vivian Glover and Joyce McGilberry; nieces, Jacquelynn Glover and Samantha (Xavier) Ferrell; a nephew, Solomon B. (Melissa) Martin; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; special cousins, Elizah and Cathy Gary; special friends, Emma Brown, Stephanie Smith, Mary Moses and Peter Shiver; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Please leave the family your condolences and prayers. The Brown family, acknowledges with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Thank you for helping us care for our families. A. A. Dicks, Sr. and Staff.
