Public Viewing for Mr. Rudolph Pompey will be Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 10:00 A.M at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229 Interment will follow in The Fort Jackson National Cemetery Please click the link below to view services for Mr. Rudolph Pompey https://www.facebook.com/A-A-Dicks-Funeral-Home-Sullivan-Chapel-115729839828313/ Mr. Rudolph Pompey, affectionately known to family and friends as “Rudy”, was born on February 7, 1948 to Walter Ford and the late Cleola Pompey Ford, in Manning, South Carolina. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 9, 2020. He was a 1967 graduate of Dunbar High School, in Lexington, North Carolina and went on to receive his Associate’s degree in Physical Education, in 1975. Rudy held many positions during his lifetime, from coaching, driving trucks, and working in upholstery and construction. Mr. Pompey served in the United States Army, as a solider with the Fort Bragg 82nd Airborne Infantry. During his service in the army, he received the Purple Heart from the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the armed forces. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the Columbia Enforcers Pinochle Club. His favorite past-times were watching sports and old western and playing cards. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Joan Hopkins Pompey, Columbia, SC; his daughter, Letha (RickY Pompey, Hopkins; his father, Walter Ford, Lexington, NC; two sisters, Vera Ford, Hopkins, SC and Barbara Willis, Columbia; four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
