Mr. Richard Allen Dortch Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Richard A. Dortch, Sr. was called Home by his Heavenly Father on January 13, 2022. He was born September 25, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Paul and Elizabeth Brown Dortch. Richard graduated from Hopkins High School with the Class of 1967. He furthered his education and graduated from Columbia Community College as well. Shortly after, he enlisted into the United States Marines where he served in the Vietnam War. Among his many medals, he received the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V. As a civilian, he worked and retired from the Westinghouse Electric Company after thirty-seven years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Dortch, Jr; a sister, Shante Dortch and a grandson, Christian I'Kell "Butta" Watson. Left to cherish precious memories are: his loving wife of 27 years, Lugenia Dortch; three children, Richard A. Dortch, Jr., Apollo (Latosha) Dortch both of Columbia, SC and Veronica (Robert) Cornelius of Nashville, TN; four step children, Fred (Rhonda) Harris of Sumter, SC, Andrena (Anthony) Jackson of Eastover, SC, Alexander (Nicola) Harris and Tiwanda Harris both of Columbia, SC; six sisters, Linda D. Dortch, Rema Mae (Jackie) Raysor, Rosemary Dortch of Columbia, SC, Patricia Dortch (Deitra Hines) of Stone Mountain, GA, and Paula (Michael) Young and Dementia (Joseph) Robusky both Tampa, FL; aunts, Juanita Dortch, Mary E. Dortch both of Columbia, SC and Lillie Dortch of Barnwell, SC; an uncle, Jonathan (Doretha) Dortch of Yonkers, NY; four sister-in-laws, Lizzie (Ed) Harris, Martha (Willie) Lee, Laura Salter, and Linda Wider; three brothers-in-laws, William Wider, David Wider and Willie Lee Wider; twenty three grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, other loving relatives and friends all of whom will miss him dearly. Funeral Service will be held on 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. Pastor Fred Harris, officiating. Interment to follow 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Public Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 17, 2022 at A. A.
