Mrs. Percynthia A. Brown

September 28, 1939 - April 23, 2014

Mrs. Percynthia Brown entered into rest on Wednesday April 23, 2014 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday April 28, 2014 at 12 noon from Zion Cannan Baptist Church, 7820 Farrow Road, Columbia. Interment will follow in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing NY. In the Village of Harlem, in the state of NY, Percynthia Annette Theresa Brown was born on September 28, 1939 to the late Roosevelt and Cecelia Brown. Her last counseling session and social work ended on April 23, 2014. The Lord said “come on home Ya-Ya” and she answered His call. “Ya-Ya” as she was affectionately known, attended catholic and public schools in NY City and graduated from NY Human Resources University with an associates degree. She was a NY City employee for over twenty five years in various positions to include Spofford Juvenile Detention Center and the Latimer Gardens and Baisley Senior Centers until her retirement. She welcomed early retirement to spend time with her “Five Heartbeats” (grandchildren) whom she adored. Out of retirement she became a supervisor for the Queens Board of Election. Percynthia relocated to Columbia, SC in 2007 to be with her children. She continued her Christian fellowship and was a founding member of the Bread of Heaven Family Worship Center under the leadership of Bishop James H. Eaddy, Jr.; where she served in the Mother’s Ministry. When travel became too much, she found a local church home at Zion Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bobby L. Smith. Not one to be a bench member, she immediately sought her purpose. She helped establish the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She worked faithfully until her departure. In the early ‘80’s, she became a faithful member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Flushing, Queens, NY under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Timothy P. Mitchell. During her tenure, she served in the New Wall Builders, Mass Choir (where she directed and was a lead singer) and a chairperson for the pastor’s anniversary banquet for many years because she enjoyed and had a love for planning ALL events and occasions. On May 8, 1999, she married a longtime friend, the late Charles Gibson. They had a wonderful marriage until his sunset on October 24, 2004. Percynthia leaves to cherish memories her daughter, Cecelia (Bishop James) Eaddy, Jr.; her five heartbeats, Akira, Portia, James III, Leah and Mia; great grands, Jamiya Chanel and Tristan Isaiah; brothers, Kenneth, Eric and Alfred; sisters, Lillian, Elizabeth A., Elizabeth S., Eleanor and Catherine; special brother, Joseph and Edmond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god children and many friends including her special girlfriends “The Crystalettes”. Lovingly submitted: The Family with special help from Percynthia. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia are in charge of these arrangements.
