Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Williams will be held on Friday October 31, 2014 at 12 noon from First Nazareth Baptist Church, 2351 Gervais Street, Columbia. Interment to follow in the Columbia Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Williams entered into rest on October 24, 2014 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia is in charge of these arrangements. Nellie Williams was born on April 3, 1939 to the late Joe Edgar Redmond and Algienell Luvenia Grant Redmond in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She was educated in the public schools of Laurens County. She graduated from Bryson High School in 1956 and began a lifelong commitment to South Carolina State in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Nellie recieved her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1960, participated in a Master of Reading program at Columbia College and completed further studies in education from Benedict College, South Carolina State University. As a teacher, she taught business, Home Arts, English Language Arts, and Reading to various levels of students at Granard High School, Lakeview School, Webber School, and Gibbes Middle School. In 1964, she met her eternal love and husband of 50 years Willie Williams, Jr. To this union one daughter was born, Willease Nellitta. She devoted over 30 years of service as office manager and real estate agent for the family business, Willie Williams & Associates. Nellie was a member of First Nazareth Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the Women's Working Ministry, Education & Tutorial Ministry, Eulogistic Choir, Santuary Ushers, and the Women's Day Finaance Committee. She worked in the community to promote the betterment of humankind, Her community involvement included membership in the Columbia Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., South Carolina State Mechanism of NCNW, National Association of Colored Women and former advisor of the Johnetta Edwards Federated Club, and a lifelong member of the NAACP. Left to cherish precious memories are her husband of 50 years, Willie Williams, Jr., her precious daughter and son, Willease Nellitta Williams and Jahsiri Moyenda, one brother like a son and sister, James C. and Patricia Redmond; granchildren in love, Adam, Amir, Tia Carmelita and Darrick, Nicolaus, Alexa, James Tristan, Caleb, and Semira; special great grandchild niece, Rylie Nicole; godchildren, Anthony and Keeli Cameron, Helene Cameron, Tina H. and James Jones, Damon and Melinda Daniels; other brothers and sisters in love, Willie J. and Ellen Redmond and Grant and Clorine Redmond; cousin-brother and sister, Charles and Earnestine Whittenberg; sisters-in-love, Addie Suber, Cleon and Fate Young, Leola Alexander, Maggie Williams, Bessie Williams, Helen Cameron, Bobbie Wood, Rose Harper, and Dora Thomas; brothers in love, James Glenn, Frank and Nancii Folk, and Bill Cleveland; a host of loving relatives, adoring students, and dear friends.
