Marietta W. Long Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ms. Marietta Williams Long, was born January 3, 1930 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Robert and Nezzie Richardson Williams. She departed this earthly home Wednesday morning, March 14, 2018 after an extended illness. Marietta attended the public schools of Richland County and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She worked diligently as a Mental Health Specialist for the SC Department of Mental Health before retiring. Ms. Long loved her family and cooking. Some of her favorite dishes were her daughter Yvonne’s banana pudding, fried fish and chicken and she cooked them both with excellence. She was a classy and stylish dresser whose favorite color was purple. Her daughters remember growing up having card parties and states that their mother liked to travel, solve word search puzzles, dance, read the newspaper and having her Maxwell House coffee. Ms. Long was preceded in death by a son, Howard Williams; a daughter, Wilma; her parents; four brothers and two sisters. Left to cherish precious memories are: two daughters, Angela Long, who was also her caregiver, of the home and Yvonne (Steve) Bowers of Columbia, SC; two sons, Kerry (Chasity) Long of Stone Mountain, GA and Allen Williams of Durham, NC; a sister, Lillie Mae Nelson of Washington, DC; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, other loving relatives and friends.
