Mrs. Margie Adams Heard Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mrs. Margie Adams Heard 62, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 14, 2015 1:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 3625 Clement Road, Columbia, SC 29203. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday November 13, 2015 from 11:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street is in charge of these arrangements. Mrs. Margie Adams Heard was born February 13, 1953 in Columbia, South Carolina but, grew up in Hopkins, South Carolina. She was eldest of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Adams. She departed this life Monday, November 9, 2015. At an early age, Mrs. Heard was a member of Zion Benevolent Baptist Church in Hopkins, South Carolina and later joined Central Baptist Church where she was baptized in 1986. There, she was a member of the Parents Club and Voices of Praise (formerly known as the Senior Musical Choir). She was also a member of the Columbia Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. “Polly”, as she was also affectionately known, enjoyed football and was an avid South Carolina Game Cocks Football Fan. Mrs. Heard attended the South Carolina School of the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Upon leaving school, she went to work at the Goodwill Industries of Greenville, South Carolina for many years. After leaving Goodwill Industries, Mrs. Heard worked as the Assistant Manager at Dorothy’s Kitchen, for her best friend Dorothy Barksdale, from 1989 until her health starting failing in 2003. Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her husband, David Dwayne Heard. She leaves to cherish fond memories: a daughter, Katrina (Isaac) Richardson of Columbia, South Carolina; two sons, David (Shemika) Heard of York, South Carolina and Shedrick Heard of Columbia, South Carolina; her parents, Jonas and Susie Mae Adams of Hopkins, South Carolina; a best friend, Dorothy Corrine Barksdale of Columbia, South Carolina; seven sisters, Kathy Duncan of Columbia, South Carolina; Jacqueline (Jerome) Bryant, Connie (Thomas) Jacobs, Shari Nesbitt, Deborah Washington, and Rosenna Adams all of Hopkins, South Carolina and Tammy Adams of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers, Joe (Marion) Adams of Hopkins, South Carolina and Cyrus (Wendy) Adams of Aurora, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Peoples of Washington, DC, and Theresa Goodwin and Elizabeth Goodwin both of Virginia; a brother-in-law, Willie L. Heard of Washington, DC; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
