Mrs. Joyce Brenda Nero Streaty was born July 26, 1948 in Aiken, South Carolina to Josephine Dicks Nero and the late Sherman Nero. The Neros lived for a short period of time in Covington, Georgia. However, Joyce grew up in Aiken, South Carolina on the family property affectionately known as "Dicks Hill." Much of Joyce's early development was nurtured by her grandmother, the late Farry Bell Dicks and her uncle the late Reverend Henry James Dicks. Joyce attended primary school at Old Storm Branch, Aiken Graded Elementary and graduated from Martha Schofield High School in Aiken, South Carolina, class of 1966. After high school, she worked as a textile professional at Seminole Mills. Joyce attended Augusta Technical College where she concentrated in Secretarial Studies. She also attended the University of South Carolina. Joyce worked for the Department of the Army doing administrative tasks. Joyce's career culminated working at Aiken Community Action, a non-profit serving financially distressed citizens in Aiken, S.C. At an early age, Joyce accepted Christ and joined Zion Mill Missionary Baptist Church. Joyce was a faithful member of the Gospel Chorus, and the Little Builders subsequently known as the E. W. Simmons Choir. She also sang in the Senior Choir. In 1980, Joyce met the true love of her life, Sergeant First Class Joseph Michael Streaty of Dayton, Ohio. The two married at Ft. Devens Massachusetts. Afterwards, the couple along with their daughter, Kenya Nashayne Streaty, moved to Fort Hood, Texas until Michael's retirement. The family moved to Aiken, South Carolina where Michael was called into the ministry. Joyce and Michael remained married for 31 years until Reverend Streaty was called home to be with the Lord. Joyce entered into eternal rest on May 11, 2022. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved Mike, her father, Sherman Nero, her nephew Gregory Nero and her beloved pet cocker spaniel, "MoJo." She leaves to mourn, her loving and faithful daughter, Nashayne Streaty; her pet cocker spaniel, "Shiloh," both of the home; her mother Josephine D. Smiley, her brother the Reverend Delbert (JoAnn) Nero; a niece Shantel Nero; two aunts, Nazerine D. Morgan and Leola N. Dicks, all of Aiken, South Carolina; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Public Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday. May 18, 2022 at Jackson Brooks Funeral Home, 126 Fairfield Street SE., Aiken, South Carolina 29801. *Flowers can be delivered to Jackson Brooks Funeral Home in Aiken, South Carolina* Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, South Carolina 29829.
