Mr. Johnnie "Perk" Edmond
September 25, 1934 - October 9, 2017
Today, we salute that flight and join in his Home Going Celebration. Trustee Johnnie Percell Edmond was born September 25, 1934 in Swansea, South Carolina to the late John Henry and Annie L. Edmond. He excepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Hebron Baptist Church in West Columbia, South Carolina. Then he became a faithful member of The Saint John Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina where he served as a Trustee, Church transportation driver and Church landscaper. After forty years of dedicated service, he retired from Wilbur Smith and Associates and started Edmond Lawn Service and successfully operated it for twenty-five years. “Perk”, as he was affectionately known, was the Vice President of The Eau Claire Neighborhood Association and a member of The Booker T. Washington Heights Community Organization where he worked throughout the community. He was a good neighbor, loving father and friend to everyone he knew and was a devoted husband for sixty two years to Mrs. Hopesena B. Edmond. Trustee Edmond was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James B. Edmond. Left to cherish precious memories are: his loving and devoted wife, Hopesena Bryd Edmond; two sons, Harry Anthony, and Norman Percell (Lisa) Edmond; three daughters, Levonne (Edward) Brown, Joyce Mickens and Thompsena Brown all of Columbia, SC; Three sisters, Lillie (Alonzo) Phelps and Millie (John) Seymour both of Columbia, SC.; and Annie Williams Davis of Maryland; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; an aunt, Nissie Washington of Columbia, SC.; three sisters-in-law, Lizzie Edmond, Larla Vinson and Lillie M. Brown of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
