James Daniel Odom, Sr.

Mr. James Daniel Odom, Sr. was born on September 23, 1950 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the only child born to the late Reverend General Jordan and Gloria Rosabee Hall Odom. He departed this life Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland. “Reb”, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Richland County and graduated from Dreher High School with the class of 1968. He furthered his studies at North Carolina Central College. Mr. Odom was a well known musician under the direction of Dr. James A. Williams of Kettering, Ohio. At an early age, he was reared and baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Lyons Street. He founded the G. J. Odom Singers of Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1970 and was the Minister of Music for several churches in the Columbia area. James also taught several students around Columbia as well. Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his parents, the late Reverend G. J. Odom and Gloria Hall Odom and a sister-in-law, Deborah A. Jivers. Left to cherish precious memories are: his wife, Cora Gidron Odom; sons, James Odom, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Pastor Maxie Outen and Carlos Outen both of Columbia, SC; a daughter, Berrica (Minister Shun) Lewis also of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild; mother-in-law, Alma R. Mathis of Columbia, SC; two brothers-in-law, Larry Gidron of Columbus, Georgia and Jacob Gidron of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Tijuana Mathis of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
