Jacquline "Elaine" Gaston
November 8, 1962 - September 12, 2018
Ms. Jacquline Elaine Davis Gaston was born November 8, 1962 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Lottie Mae McCoy Smith and Clarence Davis, Sr. She departed this earthly life September 13, 2018. “Elaine”, as she was affectionately known, attended the public schools of Richland County where she graduated from Columbia High School. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and worked tirelessly as a housekeeper for the hotel industry. Jacquline was loving but, is also remembered as an outspoken, “no non-sense” person. She was also a people’s person with a host of childhood friends. In addition to pleasing and rearing her two sons, she was considered “Mom Dukes” to their friends as well. Elaine was a strong woman who took care of her grandchildren. She loved to cook and ensured everyone ate. Some of her favorite dishes included lasagna and her mother’s cornbread recipe. Some of her hobbies included: playing cards, collecting antiques and planting flowers. Ms. Gaston was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Calvin G. Smith. Left to cherish precious memories are: her fiancé, Victor Gilmore; her two sons, Ali McDaniels and Linard Gaston; her grandchildren; a cousin, like a sister, Michelle R. Sligh; brothers, Tony C. (Audrey) Smith, James E. Smith, Clarence Davis, Jr., Kevin G. Smith and Alvin M. Davis; two aunts, Diane (Albert) Sligh and Eula M. (Irvin) Collins; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend, B. Livingston, other loving relatives and friends.
