Funeral services for Houston Dear will be held on Friday September 19, 2014 at 12 noon from Young's Chapel Baptist Church, 359 Jacob Road, Columbia, SC. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr Houston entered into rest on September 14, 2014 at Lexington Medical Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 18, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Houston was born in Columbia, SC to Alicescene Dear Gilmore and the late Houston Bracey, Sr. "Daddy- Yo" as he was affectionately known, attended Dreher High School but graduated with the class of 1988 from Columbia High School. He attended Allen University but received his Culinary Arts Certification from Lynn Hayward School. Mr. Dear was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Joe David Geiger; two brothers, Ricardo and Andrew Hagler; sister, Mary Ann Gilmore; two brothers-in-law and his father and mother-in-law. Left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Sandra Harmon Dear; two sons, Anthony (Fallon) Harmon and Houston Dear, Jr.; daughter, Mary Alice Dear; goddaughter, Monica Harmon; mother, Alicescene Gilmore; five grandchildren, Dymond, Anthony, Jr. and Joseph Harmon and Selena and Trayvon Dear; brothers, Horace (Chatrick) Bracey, Curtis Hagler, Harris (Lateshia), Hosea (Cassandra) and Heath (Sonya) Gilmore; sisters, Darlene (Christopher) Corbitt and Charlene Hagler; seven sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.
