Dorothy Mingo Henderson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral serives for Mother Dorothy Mingo-Henderson will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Lively Stone Temple in Islandton, SC. Interment will follow in the McCune Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Henderson was born to the late Charlie Mingo and Mary Magdalene Glover on January 1, 1927 in Bamberg County, SC. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, December 27, 2012. A perfect mother and homemaker, Dorothy was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was also involved in numerous volunteer activities as well as caring for her friends and neighbors when they were in need. Dorothy had an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that began in childhood at Rizer Chapel United Methodist Church. After marriage, she affiliated with Mount Nebo Methodist Church and later reared her children in the McCune Branch Baptist Church. Mother Henderson, once, her children were reared, attached to and worshipped faithfully at Lively Stone Temple in Columbia, SC. She was a beautiful singer and used her gift to serve the Lord. She was united in holy matrimony on December 30, 1946 to the late Frank Henderson, Sr. She was the mother of seven children: the late Herbert Lee Wright, the late Frank (Darlene) Henderson, Jr., Reginald (Sandra) Henderson of Bolingbrook, IL, Luretha “Lue” Ramsey and Charlene “Chubby” (Edward) Pratt, both of Columbia, SC, Rodney Keith Henderson of Florence, SC and Dorothy Mae “Missy” Fisher of Atlanta, GA. She was the mother of two adopted children; Uton and Diana Henry, Lawrenceville, GA; thirteen beautiful grandchildren: Devin Kyle Frank (Juanita) Henderson, Shontalette Robinson, Regina Sarah (Jeurell) Smith, Victor Stephenson, Alexis “Lamb Chop” Henderson, Allan Ramsey II, LaPrincess Dee “Tootie” (Cedric) Hiles, Frank Henderson III, Tabitha “Tab” Henderson, Reginald Benjamin Frank “Benji” Henderson, Ashley Charlene (Justin) Williams, Kelsey Adalie Ramsey and Jeffrey Julius Henderson and twelve lovely great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers; John Wesley Mingo and Merlo “Merl” Mingo, and sisters; Amanda Grayson, Izola Haynes, Reather Rivers, and Tossie Bell Folk. She is survived by sisters Ethel Mae Gothie of Ehrhardt, SC and Hazel Smalls of Brooklyn, NY. Mother Henderson leaves to cherish her memories, along with her children, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
