Cynthia Anne Hilton Harper
October 22, 1950 - May 14, 2013
Cynthia Anne Hilton Harper, 62, passed away Tuesday, May 14 after a final battle with the manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis. Born in Savannah, GA, she was the daughter of Virginia Hilton of Columbia, SC and the late Emory Hilton. She leaves behind her husband of 21 years, Rob Harper of Columbia and daughter via marriage and friends and confidant by mutual respect, Allison Harper of Rhode Island. Extended members of her birth family include brother Ronnie (Wanda) and son Brent (Jessica) and nieces Bethany and Breanna all of Lexington County, son Charlie of Detroit and daughter Joy of Myrtle Beach. In her rich life, she had served as office manager of two commercial firms, toured the country as a singer in a bluegrass band, performed extensively in the Columbia area community theatre, read voraciously and enjoyed gardening. A world traveler with friends in later years, she had walked the Great Wall of China, climbed a Mayan pyramid in Mexico, gone on safari in South Africa, enjoyed theatre in London and sailed the Caribbean from Bermuda to Grenada. She and husband Rob entertained extensively but among her most cherished moments was spending Saturdays with her mother, Virginia, when they would frequently go shopping to "stimulate the local economy." Eternal gratitude goes to Lou Ann Morris, friend and neighbor of Rob and Cyndy for fourteen years. Together the girls shared joys and endured hardships, including Lou's help and love in the final days at Cyndy's side. Special thanks to Palmetto Health Richland's Medical Step-down Unit for ensuring Cyndy's final passage was booked first class. In lieu of flowers or memorials, those wishing to honor Cyndy's life are encouraged to do something unexpectedly nice for others whenever possible. That would embody the essence of her time with us. Remembrances of Cyndy's unabiding faith, trust and love will be celebrated at the home of her mother, Virginia Hilton, 17 Dinwood Circle, Columbia, SC from 6 - 7:30 p.m. today. A wake, a toast and further celebration of her life will occur at the home of Carla Broph,1744 McSwain Drive, West Columbia, SC from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Saturday. Friends are welcomed at both observances.
