Ms Barbara Jean Boney
January 15, 1948 - September 13, 2019
Ms. Barbara Jean Boney was born January 15, 1948 in Columbia, SC to the late Ruben Bookert and Maggie Irene Boney Tillery. She was reared by her grandparents, the late Ernest and Beulah Boney after her mother moved to Philadelphia, PA to become a cosmetologist. “Bobbi”, as she was affectionately known, passed away peacefully, September, 13, 2019. Bobbi was educated in the public school of Richland County where she graduated from C. A. Johnson High School. She furthered her education earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Benedict College. She accepted Christ at an early age at Temple Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of The Reverend Jamison and she regularly attended Sunday School and was a member of the choir. She later joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church #1 when The Reverend A. J. Grove was pastor. Bobbi was employed by the Aiken Community Care Center for forty years until her retirement. She always wore a smile and loved puzzles. “Snacks” were her favorite food and she loved the color purple. A few of her favorite pastimes were loving her family, listening to music and dancing. Ms. Boney reared two beautiful, loving and precious daughters who cared for her during her illness. They have many fond memories of her to include her love of purchasing pocketbooks no matter the cost. Her kidney transplant experience, formed a special relationship with her nurses, Tracy Gloria and Linda; who she treated like daughters. Bobbi was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, parents, and a step-father, Leroy Tillery. Left to cherish precious memories are: her daughters, DeWan Marshelle and Karen Melissa Boney; two sisters, Yvette Tillery Banks of Philadelphia, PA and Cynthia Tillery Williams of Columbia, SC; two nieces, Tyreea (Darond) Tilllery-Sumter also of Columbia, SC and Ashley Banks of PA; a nephew, Gerald (Nikki) Tillery of Rochester, NY; five great nieces, Ceria, Ciani and Ca’Neea of Columbia, SC and Little Miss Kaylen of PA; four great nephews, Master Da’Vion of Columbia, SC, Master Tymir and Kaden both of PA and Master Nicholas of Rochester, NY; a great great nephew, Master Tristan of Columbia, SC and a host of other loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Please leave the family your condolences and prayers. The Boney family acknowledges, with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Thank you for helping us care for our families. A. A. Dicks, Sr. and Staff.
