Alberta exchanged her earthly life for eternal rest with God in the early morning hours of May 9, 2020. “Bert” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Kershaw and Richland County. Her love for cleaning allowed her to work for Benedict College, as a custodian and Providence Hospital in the Environmental Department. Alberta was a God-fearing and loving woman, who enjoyed studying The Word. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, under the pastorate of A. A. Dicks, Sr. and she served on the Usher’s Ministry during her attendance at Friendship. “Bert” lived life to the fullest. When she wasn’t working or studying The Word, she enjoyed spending time with her family and closest friends. She was an amazing aunt, sister, cousin, friend, mother, and grandma. Alberta’s nurturing nature and love for people would be her lifelong trademarks. Encounters with her were filled with love, laughter, and always some valuable and unsolicited advice. If you needed her—whether it were a meal or a place to lay your head, she was there no matter what and you could count on her. Alberta is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Willie Jack Humphery, Jr and siblings, Shirley Ann Nelson, Albert Ronnie Gilmore, Gladys Williams, Robert Ellis, Dorothy Jean Parker, Isaac Gilmore, Mary E. White, Osree Jones, Willie Lee Gilmore, and Theodore “Butch” Gilmore. Ms. Alberta Gilmore is survived by: her loving daughter, Tenellia Humphery, two sons, Willie (La Tasha) Hollman, and Tyrone Hollman, all of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Willie Humphery, III, Nadia Humphery, Shabrayla Hollman, Willie Brown, Ty’yonna and Ty’Shawn Hollman; three sisters, Betty L. McCray, Dover, DE, Willie Mae Williams, Syracuse, NY, and Nellie Faye Sutton, NJ; special sisters-in-law, Patrica Blythers, Bishopville, SC and Gloria Gilmore, Hopkins, SC; a special friend, Kieth Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Alberta will forever be remembered for her loving, caring, supportive, and unselfish spirit. Please leave the family your condolences and prayers. The Gilmore family, acknowledges with grateful appreciation, all of your kind expressions of love and sympathy. Thank you for helping us care for our families. A. A. Dicks, Sr. and Staff.
