Ms. Yolanda Vashawn Williams

Ms. Yolanda Vashawn Williams, affectionately known as “Landa” to many, was born in Columbia, South Carolina to Pathenia Williams-Starks and Anthony Higgins on November 14, 1988. Yolanda transitioned to be with the Heavenly Father on July 19, 2022. Yolanda was educated in the Richland County School System and earned her diploma from A.C Flora High School. Yolanda later attended South University to pursue her BS in Nursing. Yolanda was employed by Prisma Health Richland. Yolanda was truly an angel on Earth. She shared her love for God, her family, and friends with everyone. Her smile would brighten every room that she entered and her soft sweet voice was like music to your ears. Yolanda was always there to be a listening ear, shoulder to lean on, or offer words of encouragement. She always had a positive attitude no matter the situation. Yolanda is a Sickle Cell Anemia Warrior. She never allowed the disease to stop her from accomplishing her heart’s desires. When she would go through a pain crisis, her concern was not for herself but for those that were closest to her. She would never complain but remind us constantly that she is a child of God and that He had her in His care. She would spend her time encouraging us to keep our heads up, make sure that her children and mother were ok, and check on her beloved Bella Rose. Yolanda educated people on the challenges that Sickle Cell Anemia warriors would face when seeking care and/or treatment and voiced her concerns on the changes that needed to be made. Again, she was always thinking about others and not just herself. Her greatest pride and joy in life was being an amazing Mom to her sonshine, Elijah and her beautiful princess, Zyon. She loved creating special memories with her children, making them smile and giving them all of her love. Yolanda's legacy will go on forever- she lived, she loved, and she accomplished her goals leaving an imprint on everyone that was blessed to meet and talk with her. Yolanda left this world a better place simply because she was here! Yolanda was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mr. John Higgins; uncle, Mr. Bernard Higgins; great-uncle, Louie E. Johnson; aunts, Cassandra Higgins and Emma Dean Derrick; special cousin, Jason William Anderson. Yolanda’s legacy and memories will continue through her mother, Pathenia Williams (John) Starks of Columbia, South Carolina and Anthony Higgins of Eastover, South Caolina; son, Elijah A. Williams; daughter, Zyon Nevaeh Williams-Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina; maternal grandmother, Bertha L. Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; paternal grandmother, Daisy Mae Higgins of Eastover, South Carolina; brothers, Darrius Solomon and Anquan Higgins both of Columbia, South Carolina; sister, Tameisha Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; aunt, Shonta M. Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; uncles, Marion Derrick of Columbia, South Carolina and Isaac Williams of York, South Carolina; 11 nieces and nephews all of Columbia, South Carolina; special cousins – ShaNiah A. Williams, Jaiden I. Williams, and Jada M. Williams, Terry Norris all of Columbia, South Carolina, Dantigo (Santor) Green of Burton, South Carolina; her little boo Achilles Jason William Anderson of Columbia, South Carolina; her bonus sisters, Erika Taylor of Houston, Texas, Kemberly Whitener, Shanaria Johnson, Deanna Johnson, Naja T. Dreher, Decole F. Brown, Jayna Martin, and Danielle Jennings all of Columbia, South Carolina; dear friend, Josh Taylor of Columbia, South Carolina; childhood friends, Querida Dinkins, Lelia Goodwin, and Impazia Anderson of Columbia, South Carolina; fur baby Bella Rose; special friend, Tavaraus Brown of Columbia, South Carolina and a host of family and friends that were blessed to have Yolanda as part of their lives. Interment to follow in The Promised Land Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2022 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel.
