She was born, July 23, 1959 to the late Deacon Edmond and Virginia Durant Woods. Vickie joined Friendship Baptist Church at an early age and sang with the Messengers, on the Sanctuary Choir, and worked with the Homeless Feeding Ministry. She lived on Oakside Lane, but spent most of her time at her sister’s home with her great niece and nephews. She had so much love for them and they as well for her. There were times when people thought they were her children and she would humbly reply by saying, “these are my three little bugs”, which was the name she loved to call them. Vickie was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a 1977 graduate of Dreher High School. She then attended South University, earning her degree in Psychology as an Honor student. She made a promise to her mother, to get her degree and that promise she kept. When asked, if she would further her education after receiving her degree, she said, “Not right now, gotta give the old brain a rest.” Vickie worked as an Activity Therapist and recently changed her working position. She worked for The State of South Carolina for more than twenty years. Her most recent place of employment was with WellPath. She loved and enjoyed working with her co-workers. Vickie was not shy about letting everyone know that she was a die-hard, Dallas Cowboys fan. Nothing was more important than the love she got from her family. She had so many friends who adored her. Vickie leaves to cherish precious and fond memories of her: her son, Cory Woods, of Salters, SC; four grandchildren, Aaliyah, Carmella, Carter, and Peyton; seven sisters, Geneva Patterson, Phyllis Sumter, Calisteen Faust, Minister Barbara (Laverne) Mack, Brenda (Larry) Richardson, Marie Woods, and Karen Heller, all of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Calvin (Minister Evelyn) Woods, of Columbia, SC and Curtis Woods, of Monroe, GA; and a host of many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
