Ms. Valerie Richardson

Ms. Valerie Richardson, 70, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 surrounded by family in Chester, Virginia. She was born July 3, 1953, to the late Raymond Richardson, Sr. and Rosa Mae Jackson Richardson. Valerie attended the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She worked in the food service industry for many years at Benedict College, the Courtyard by Marriott, and Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. Valerie, affectionately known as "Val", was a loving mother of six-a fun-loving and spirited woman who always spoke her mind. She had an ability to make people laugh, regardless who they were or where she was. Val as admired by everyone fortunate enough to cross her paths. Although she was a diehard Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) fan much like the Dallas Cowboys, they hadn't won anything since the early 90's. Val cherished spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, as well as her extended family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, and watching old televison shows. Lastly, Val loved engaging in lively phone conversations with her siblings almost daily and found solace in reading Bible scriptures. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Yolanda Richardson; brothers, Anthony, Ardean, Alexander, Reginald and Palmer Richardson; her grandson, Darius K. Richardson; paternal grandparents, Ruby Harper, and John & Julia Jackson. Left to cherish her precious memories are her children, Daren D. Richardson, Kiesha L. Richardson, Lemans Richardson, Theandra Richardson, Shanda L. Richardson (Ujima K., Sr.) Jackson, and Marion A. Richardson; twenty grandchildren, DeAndrae D. Richardson, Kiarra A. Richardson-Williams, Brandon X. Richardson, Kimani A. Richardson, Alisha J. Richardson, Diamond Wilson, Damani Wilson, Damaria Richardson, Kenna Ball, Deman Richardson, Deyante Richardson, Keaja Richardson, Malia Richardson, Monica Richardson, Leman Richardson, Jr., Neeko Richardson, Arlo Richardson, Vashawn R. Myers, Jr., Marcus M. Hagwood Ujima K. Jackson, Jr.; five great grandchildren, Da'Zhia Richardson, Nasir Richardson, Avyonna Richardson, Jaquavious Richardson, and Jahmir Williams; brothers, Raymond Richardson, Jr., and Lawrence Richardson; sisters, Jewel R. Pauling, Virginia Yon, Melvenia Hariston, Deborah F. Bell, Vivian Richardson, Jacqueline Brown, and Constance Richardson; aunt, Vertell Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and many friends who adored her. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. The Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr., Pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery. Ms. Richardson will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time. Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home. Like our Facebook page: A. A.
