He was born on September 2, 1960 to the late Odenner Harris and the late William Harris, Sr. A proud graduate of Dreher High School, Class of 1979, Terry was voted "Best Dressed", a title he proudly carried throughout his life with confidence, class and impeccable style. Before joining the United States Army, Terry attended Rice Business College, where he furthered his education in preparation for the next chapter of his life. He honorably served in the United States Army for 20 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his military career, he served in Southwest Asia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Strom, faithfully serving his country with pride and dedication. Following his military service, Terry was a businessman for many years, working in insurance, marketing, telecommunications and sales. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to own and operate several businesses, building a legacy of hard work, determination, and entrepreneurship. He joined Bible Way Church of Atlas Road at a young age. Terry remained grounded in a faith that helped shape his life. He was also a proud member of VFW Post 4262 and More Light Masonic Lodge No. 468, where he valued fellowship, service, and community. Terry was known for his warm conversations and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. No one ever left a conversation with him empty-handed. He always shared wisdom, encouragement, laughter, or a lesson that stayed with them. He believed in giving people their flowers while they can still smell them, making sure those he loved, knew how much they meant to him. His favorite saying, "Let's have a good time," perfectly reflected the joy, kindness, and positive spirit he shared everywhere he went. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Odenner and William Harris, Sr.; his brother, William "Pick" Harris, Jr.; his grandmother, Nancy Sumter Jones; and beloved nephew, Le'tim "Ducie" Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Jamie L. Harris; sons, Jermaine "Mechie" (Ivy) Higgins, Terrance "T.D." Harris, Travis Creech, Sr., and Phillip Glover; his daughter, Terri Harris and Shailla Johnson; bonus daughter, Shaneka Youmans and Ciera Brown; sisters, Christine D. "Litha" Harris, Diane Harris, Deborah Halback, Patricia Williams, and Pamela Goings Harris; brother, Thomas (Cassandra) Harris; special niece, Michelle 'Vet" Harris; special brother, Michael Ishmael; 22 beloved grandchildren; 11 cherished great-grandchildren; his beloved cat, Honey and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2026 at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, 2440 Atlas Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29209. Interment with Military Honors to follow in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Pastor Darrell Jackson, Sr., officiant. Mr. Harris will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time.
