Ms. Shirley Samuel Benjamin

Ms. Shirley Evon Samuel Benjamin was born July 15, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Willie and Mary Alice Moore Samuel. She was the eighth of twelve children. Shirley possessed a heart of gold and offered an abundance of love to her family, friends, and children. Early sunday morning, December 10, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom looked around in His garden, chose a beautiful flower and peacefully called Shirley home to eternal rest at Providence MUSC Hospital. She was educated in the public schools of Richland County, and a graduate of the Class of 1973 from Dreher High School. She was baptized at an early age and was a member of Young’s Baptist Church. After relocating to Florence, South Carolina, she operated a children’s daycare center from her home in Effingham, South Carolina for many years. Upon returning to Columbia, South Carolina, she was employed with Farrow Hills Day Care owned and operated by Mrs. Peggy Wilson. With her big open heart and love of children, she later became a teacher at Bethel Child Care and Development Center, until her health started to decline. Shirley had such an amazing, sterned love for children. Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Samuel; three sisters, Willie Mae Legette, Mary Lee Smith, and Minnie Lee Dash; and three brothers-in-law. Ms. Shirley Evon Samuel Benjamin leaves to cherish her precious memories: one brother, Curtis (Rosa) Samuel; six sisters, Jo Ella Reed, Iris A. Hope, Alberta (James) Taylor, Loretta Garner, Betty J. Samuel all of Columbia, South Carolina, and Rochelle D. (Franklin) Wider, of Hopkins, South Carolina; a special brother-in-law, Phillip Legette, of Florence, South Carolina: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 12 noon, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 N. Main Street, Columbia, SC 29203. Pastor A. A. Dicks, Sr., officiating. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2023 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, Thursday, November 14, 2023 at A. A.
