Ruth Smith Holland

Services for Ruth Smith Holland, will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1:00pm at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Talatha Community. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will take place at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, Aiken, SC. Sis. Ruth Smith Holland was born to Penny Ophelia Dicks and the late Charlie Smith on March 9, 1942 in Aiken, SC. She was called home to glory on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Sis. Ruth Smith Holland attended Pleasant Hill and Storm Branch Elementary School concluding her education at Schofield High School in 1961. She was baptized at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and also enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends at Ashley Grove Baptist Church, Aiken SC. She spent many years as a sales person at BC Moore's Department Store. She retired from Kimberly Clark Corporation after many committed years of service. She served as a Poll Manager for Aiken County Registration and Elections, and also volunteered for the Democratic Party. She enjoyed sewing, working in her garden, and spending time with her family. On November 12, 1961 she was united in holy matrimony to Mack Henry Holland. To this union three children were born; a son Mack Henry Holland, Jr., a daughter Cynthia Delores Holland, and the late George Matthew Holland. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Charlie Smith, Jr., David Smith, and Lillie Mae Matthews. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her mother, Penny Ophelia Smith, Aiken, SC; her son, Mack Holland Jr., Augusta, GA, her daughter, Cynthia Holland, Aiken, SC; two granddaughters, Kanita Holland, Atlanta GA, and Jasmine Holland, Hephzibah, GA; one grandson, Carlos Jackson, Augusta GA; and one great- grandson, Kayden Mack, Atlanta, GA.; two brothers, Kenneth (Dorothy) Smith, Albuquerque, NM, and Mcronel (Barbara) Smith, Aiken, SC; four sisters, Doris Pope, Mary Annette Vaughn, Shirley Brown, Christmas (Jimmie) Starlings, all of Aiken, SC; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Our sister Ruth Smith Holland will truly be missed by all of us that loved her. May she rest in peace.
