Mrs. Rose Mae Javis

Mrs. Rose Javis, 89, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born on August 27, 1935 to Vera and John Heggs. She was married to her beloved Willie Javis for many years. Rose was known as Ma, Nana, and Mama Rose to many people. She was a faithful member of Zion Chapel #1 where she served as a deaconess as well as the grief committee, the Missionary Board and other ministries until she relocated to Winston Salem, North Carolina where she also became a member of Phillip Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She loved cooking, sharing recipes and was famous for her pig feet, and sweet potato pies. She also loved going to her Senior Center to share the Love of God as well as chair volleyball, bingo the outings, and other activities. She was a self-employed Hairdresser in Bridgeport, Connecticut for many years until her retirement and relocated to Columbia, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Javis; parents, Vera and John Heggs; 13 siblings; 3 children, Jackie Snead, Alphonso (Pop) Lewis, and Nathaniel (Jabo) Underwood. Left to cherish her precious memories are her children, Cecil (Carolyn) Lewis, Vera Blank, Belinda Sampson (all of Mays Landing, NJ), Sharon McIntyre (of Winston-Salem, NC), and Ronnie Underwood (of Bridgeport, Conn); two sisters, Willie Mae Williams, and Juanita Williams of FL; 23 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 12 noon, Friday, April 11, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr., Pastor, Reverend Jesse Washington, Jr., officiating. Interment to follow in the Zion Chapel Baptist Church No. 1 Cemetery. Mrs. Javis will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time. Public viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2025. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204.
