Raymond Porchea

Mr. Raymond Porchea was delivered in Paterson, NJ on July 1, 1954 and was the youngest son born to the late James and Carrie Myers Porchea, Sr. He departed this life Monday, January 1, 2019 in Columbia, SC. Raymond was reared in a large family whose house was always full. Some of the family’s fondest memories are of him sitting with his brothers sucking his thumb along side Arnold who sucked three fingers and Ronald who sucked two. He always cracked jokes on people who in turn wanted to “ring his neck”. Raymond loved to party with everyone; especially with his oldest sister, Theresa “Terry” who thought she could dance but, was a better singer instead. His sister Joyce would tell on everyone else but Raymond and trust, he was always up to something with that thumb in his mouth. There was two hobbies Raymond did well, run and dance. “Unk, Ray Ray or Ray”, as he was also affectionately known, was the second fastest runner on the block. He was poetry in motion and never did he sweat. The family considered him as their very own Flash from Marvel. Because Raymond could dance well, he didn’t mind “showing out” but, you had to beg him to do so. Unk was awesome. His favorite song “Let the Side Show Begin” by Blue Magic was played so much, the family wanted to throw away the record player. Once he relocated to South Carolina all he met loved him. Mr. Porchea was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Leon Beach; brothers, James, Jr. (aka, Pretty Pork Chops), Arnold, Ronald and Freddie; sisters, Rosa Mae Myers and Willie Mae Porchea; and a niece, Wanda Myers Satterwhite. Left to cherish precious memories are: his wife, Tammy Scott Porchea who reared six children with him; a son, Chakaris Spence of Paterson, NJ; twenty-one grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce and Theresa “Terry” Porchea also of Paterson, NJ and Melissa Eason of Sumter, SC; brother-in-law, Reginald “Reggie” Satterwhite; nieces, Frankie Crawford of Eastover, SC and Chrystal (Andre) Myers Washington; a special cousin, Marcus Murrell who stayed in trouble with Raymond and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
