Mrs. Pauline Fair Butler

Mrs. Pauline Fair Butler departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Funeral Services for Mrs. Butler will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Bethlehem Baptist Church- College Place, 1028 Eastman Street, Columbia, SC. Interment to follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Pauline Fair Butler, was born in Columbia, SC on May 9, 1936 to the late Charlotte Siebels Mosby. She departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. At an early age, she joined Zion Canaan Baptist Church where she served on the Ushers Board and Missionary and Kitchen Ministries. She also dedicated to every cause of the church to donate to those in need. Pauline attended the public schools of Richland County to include St. Martin DePorres and Bethel High School in Blythewood, SC. "Lefty", as she was known by her basketball and softball teammates because she was left handed, pressed and graduated from Richland Two Adult Education in 1975. Mrs. Butler worked tirelessly for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs for thirty years. She was awarded the Distinguished Employee of the Year twice because she was passionate about the individuals she cared for and staff she worked with. A pillar in her community, she shared an unbreakable bond with her neighbors and was also a member of the Greenview Seniors Club. Some of her favorite hobbies included: collecting angel figurines, cooking; with a philosophy that "its better to have more than to need it and not have it". Some of the family's favorites were her good ole' fried chicken, macaroni and biscuits. Mrs. Butler was a fashion guru who loved hats. She could dress anyone for any occasion and was straight forward. One of her sayings was "I don't chew my cabbage twice" and used it to speak up to her daughter's employer once. However, Mrs. Butler spoiled everyone and had nothing but love in her heart. Her love was homemade. Mrs. Butler is preceded in death by her husband, John Wilson Butler; whom she married on September 21, 1958. Left to cherish precious memories and love are: her daughters, Gwendolyn (Randolph) Cook of Summerville, SC; Tammie B. (Tony) Bowers, Sr. of Columbia, SC and Brenda (James) Sweatman of Lansing, MI; sons, Roddey E. (Deborah) Fair of Aiken, SC and Kevin (Faye) Butler of Charlotte, NC; her loving grandchildren (her joys) Myles Fair, Tony Bowers II, Jazmine Sweatman, Raven Fair, Taylor Bowers, Brendon Sweatman, Terrica Bowers, Javaski (Sylvia) and Tyski English; great grandchildren, Javaski Jr., J'Lon, Janiah, Jordan and McKinley English and Weston Sweatman; a sister, Helen Mosby of Columbia, SC; sisters-in-law, Betty R. Butler of Edison, NJ, Asrine Butler of Brooklyn, NY, Albert B. Nelson of Lugoff, SC and Alfredia B. Suber of Sumter, SC; brothers-in-law, Boykin and Sidney Butler both of Lugoff, SC; an aunt, Annie Gill and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
