Ms. Ollie Ann Kizer

Ollie Ann Green Kizer entered this world on May 30, 1950, to the late Rebecca Odessa Woods Stephenson and Zeru Green in Sumter, South Carolina. The baby of three siblings, Ollie embraced this world for what it had to offer. A quiet yet fierce soul, Ollie enjoyed every moment of it. Ollie slipped away to see her Heavenly Father on March 2, 2024, in the comfort of her home with her final two words being, “I’m okay”. Ollie was educated in the school system of Sumter County before her family relocated to the great state of New York. She continued receiving her formal education in the public school system. Dancing, having fun, dressing, playing spades, and above all cooking and caring for children were some of Ollie’s favorite pastimes. She has held various types of employment in her lifetime. From daycare, babysitting, being a foster mother, and the New York Department of Education, Ollie's work was very meaningful. While in NYC, Ollie met the late Bert Kizer. There they immensely enjoyed each other’s company and fell in love. After a few years, they relocated back to South Carolina making Columbia their home. Once relocated, they sealed their love in holy matrimony. Ollie was a long-time employee of St. Martin de Porres Catholic School. Being a member of the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. A. Dicks, Sr., she found a church to plant her family in and to grow their faith in God. When unable to attend her church, she would frequently attend Second Nazareth Baptist Church where she would still serve her true and living God. Ollie was also a vital member of the veteran's affairs. Ollie’s last dream was to become an owner and operator of her daycare center. Perusing her dream, she attended Midlands Technical College to obtain a degree in Early Childhood. Due to her health, she was unable to finish and was shy of 3 credit hours. Ollie was a mother of mothers. As mentioned, she enjoyed the art of cooking. She found joy in offering various dishes to her family, watching them enjoy the food, laugh, and bond together. Ollie preferred preparing meals for her loved ones rather than dining out at restaurants. Despite having the opportunity to eat at restaurants on special occasions, she always felt that she could have cooked the meal better herself. Her love for cooking and creating a cozy environment for her family is evident in the memories shared by so many individuals. Ollie called an ace an ace and a spade a spade. Ollie would enjoy ending a family function either dancing to old school music or playing cards; spades was the family game. She would love to sit at the table with her son Will as her partner. Spades, the game that involves strategy, skill, and teamwork were all things that Ollie possessed. Ollie understood the game and the assignment. Ollie played a significant role in helping others and making sacrifices. Ollie not only reared her biological children, but she nurtured, cared for, loved, and looked after so many. Considering the needs of children over her own, working tirelessly to ensure that children were loved and taken care of no matter what. Showing resilience in the face of challenges and losses, providing comfort, guidance, and support to those around her. Often served as a source of strength and positivity, teaching valuable life lessons to all the children she encountered. Ollie embodies qualities such as love, compassion, and generosity, always striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, emotional support, or practical assistance, Ollie went above and beyond to help others in need. Ollie loved to travel. She had a passion for exploring the world. Her love for travel was evident as she traveled extensively with family and friends. Her travels left a lasting treasure of memories. Despite battling cancer, Ollie didn’t look like the things she had gone through. She continued to explore the world until she was no longer able to. Her passports were filled with stamps representing happiness, accomplishments, and cherished memories. With sadness, Ollie took another trip. She travels on the journey to Kings Highway. There is will meet those who traveled their journey before her. Ollie was preceded in death by her oldest son, William Eugene Klines; two grandchildren, Tiyna Johnson, and Nygia Klines; one sister, Shirley Green-Clines; both parents as well as both maternal and paternal grandparents. A precious soul has come, lived, and is now gone before us. Ollie leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Karen Klines, LaToya LeGare, and Letitia Klines - who was her caretaker until her last breath; one son, Kaymond Kenneth Q - Kizer; one God-son, Rev. Edward K. Taylor; two grandchildren, Isaiah Jacob’s and Teyana Skylah White; one sister, Ida Green-Thomas; one uncle, Bobby Woods; four special friends, Mrs. Antoinette Wright, Elder Larry Evan, Mrs. Teresa Ervin, and Albert LeGare; a host of foster children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29204. The Reverend A. A. Dicks, Sr., Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024 and from 9:00 a.m until 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the funeral home. Like our Facebook page: A. A.
