Ms. Lula Hubbard

Ms. Lula Hubbard, 76, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2025 at Lexington Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Hortense Thompson born on November 14, 1948 in Columbia, South Carolina. Lula recieved her formal education in the public schools of Richland County and graduated from Hopkins High School, Class of 1966. Shortly, after her graduating, she moved to Santa Monica, California where she resided for fifty years before returning to Columbia, South Carolina in 2016. Lula gave her life to the Lord at an early age. While residing in Santa Monica, California, she became a member of First AME Church By The Sea Methodist Church. Upon her return to Columbia, South Carolina, she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully until her health declined. Lula retired from Saint John's Hospital and Roosevelt Middle School, in Santa Monica, California. She enjoyed pencil coloring, crossword puzzles, helping and caring for others. She was a joyous and happy person, and her heart was fixed on helping the homeless, the underprivileged and single mothers, each of whom cherished her acts of kindness. Ms. Lula Washington Hubbard, will be missed by her sister, Sarah Lowman, of Columbia, SC; two nephews (honorary sons), James (Wanda) Lowman, Jr., of Columbia, SC and Deven Jervaine Lowman of Upper Marlboro, MD; one niece, Jennifer Goodwin of Columbia, SC; five great nieces and nephews (honorary grandchildren), Nyqetta (Jared) Johnson of Hampton, GA, Brad and Chad Lowman of Columbia, SC, Deven James and Kennedy Lowman of Upper, Marlboro, MD; one great great nephew, Kaiden Thompson; one great great niece, Journi Johnson; cousins, Bridgett (Robert) Thomas; special cousin, Luella Hunter; her longtime friends, Shiobhan Dove, Sharon Knight and Barbara Dumas. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203.
