Mr. Lester Kelly, Sr.

Mr. Lester Kelly Sr. was born March 31st 1938 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. He was born to the late Mr. Arthur and Marie Sims-Kelly. He departed this life on January 30, 2024 at Prisma Health Parkridge Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Fairfield Public Schools and was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church Richtex where he was a Trustee and served diligently on the Jubilee Choir. He was employed at Kline Iron and Steel for 38 years and after retirement he worked for Food Lion for 7 years and assisted the community as a school crossing guard for 5 years. He was a Master Mason serving with Masonic Lodge More Light #468 F.&A.M. in Columbia, South Carolina. He loved playing and watching baseball, fishing, and going to the beach. He was a self-taught Master Carpenter who assisted numerous patrons in the community, including major projects at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Mr. Kelly is preceded in death by: his son, Richard Corey Kelly; parents, Arthur and Marie Sims-Kelly; brothers, Leroy “Head”Kelly, Arthur”Jie” Kelly, Andrew”Nan” Kelly, Lewis”Luke” Kelly and Belton”Belt” Kelly; sisters, Mary”Mae” Frances Bowden and Marie”Dot’ Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Brasley Kelly; son, Lester (Shekira) Kelly, Jr. of Elgin, SC; daughters, Brenda (Lindsey) Anderson of Winnsboro, SC, Sylvia (Mitch) Robinson, and Sally (Greg) Elmore of Columbia, SC; brother, James (Cornelia) Kelly; sister, Viola Kelly Brown; grandchildren, Kelvin Anderson, Keith Anderson, Lester Sherrod Kelly, Kierra Kelly, Kandance Kelly, Amber Kelly, Khalid Robinson, Kaylah Kelly, and Cortney Elmore; great-grandchildren, Kamayah Anderson, Kelvin Anderson, Jr., Kennedy Anderson, Zy Kelly, Jahbari , Jaleah, Journey, Madison, Maison, and Legend and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church Richtex, 11121 Monticello Road, Winnsboro, South Carolina 29180. The Reverend Ronald Best, Pastor. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Kelly will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to the service time. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home.
