Ms. Kimberly Yolanda Sumter

Ms. Kimberly Y. Sumter, 47, of Columbia, South Carolina entered into eternal rest February 27, 2025 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. She began her life April 26, 1977, in Eastover, South Carolina. Kimberly was the daughter of the late Johnnie Mae Sumter. She was raised by Bertha Williams and later in life by Brenda Williams. Kimberly was the life of the party, and loving person who cared for her family deeply. At a early age she was baptized at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Eastover, South Carolina. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and taking her clients out to have fun where she worked at United Cerebral Palsy. Her passion for others was a jewl. She enjoyed family time and cooking for all family events. She also enjoyed watching cooking shows, ID Channels, doing crossword puzzles, and taking family pictures. Kimberly and Kenya was known to do matching family photos every holiday. Kimberly was often called on by people in the community to write letters because of her beautiful handwriting. Whitney Houston was her favorite singer. Kimberly won Ms. Eastover, Ms. St. Matthews, and Ms. Webber. Kimberly also attended may pageants and talents shows. The most important thing that kept her going was being an amazing grandmother to her one and only grandson, Da'Kari. She spoiled Da'Kari with love and toys every day. Kimberly was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a graduated of Lower Richland High School, Class of 1995. She was a dedicated caregiver for many years at United Cerebral Palsy. Kimberly was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend. She has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew her. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlie and Willie Williams. Kimberly leaves to cherish her precious memories by her bonus father, Charlie Shield of Hopkins, SC ; daughters, Shaniya Sumter and Aureyana Gibson of Columbia, SC; sons, Dashawn Sumter and Da'quan Gibson of Columbia, SC; grandson, Da'Kari Sumter of Columbia, SC; sister, Kenya (Shamar) Washington of Evans, GA; brothers, Muntaqium Khaliq of Hopkins, SC, Dominic Williams of VA and Donte Williams of Eastover, SC; bonus sister, Sarah (Kevin) Staley of Columbia, SC; sunt, Josephine (Carence) Williams of Eastover, SC; uncle, Paul Weston of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces. great-nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral service will be 12 noon, Saturday March 8, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Bishop Q. S. Blacks, officiating.
