Elder Johnie Mae Pough

Elder Johnie Mae Pough was born January 8th, 1931 in Woodford, South Carolina to the late John and Agnes Staley. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 to be with the Lord. She was educated in the Orangeburg County Public School. Elder Pough was a member at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Woodford, South Carolina, where she served on the usher's board from ages nine to fifteen. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York and became a member of Tabernacle of Prayer For All People in Jamaica Queens, New York, where she came an ordained Elder. She returned to South Carolina where she became and remained a faithful member of Kingdom Builders Ministries. She was a seamstress by trade. Her hobbies included hat making, crocheting, sewing, baking, and spending time with her family. You would always see her singing, dancing and spending time with the Lord. Elder Pough was preceded in death by her husband, Derides Pough; her parents, John and Agnes Staley; her two brothers, Edward Major, and Aldin Staley; two sisters, Carretha Walker, and Clara Johnson; one granddaughter, Gretchen M. Smith, and her bonus daughter, Sandra Okoli. Those left to cherish her fond and precious memories are her three daughters, Ruby S. Jones and Agnes James both of Columbia, South Carolina, Keren (Michael, Sr.) Pender of Brooklyn, New York; a son, Pastor Dennis R. (Junette) Pough of Columbia, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Gregory Smith, Sr., Bridgette Smith, Furman (Ne-Shawn) James, Gerry (Lawanda) James, Raven (Lamonte) Reed, Jason Pough, Michael Pender, Jr., Ashley James, Marie Okoli, Tiffany (Maurice) Glover, Timothy Pough, and Tennise Pough; sixteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Kingdom Builders Ministries, 5320 Fairfield Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Marvin Jackson, Sr. Pastor, Pastor Dennis Pough, officiating. Interment to follow in the Promised Land Cemetery. Elder Pough will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to service time.
