Mr. James W. Thomas

Funeral services for Mr. James W. Thomas of Conyers, Ga will be held on Friday June 12, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1063 Old Two Notch Rd, Elgin, SC 29045. Interment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemtery with military honors. Public viewing will be Thursday June 11, 2015 from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Thomas entered into rest on Monday June 8, 2015 at Rockdale Medical Center, Conyers, Ga. A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 2548 Main Street, Columbia is in charge of these arrangements. James “Jimmy” William Thomas was born in Canton, North Carolina on January 28, 1940 to the late James Henry & Venezela Davis Thomas. Jimmy graduated from Reynolds High School and earned an Associates Degree from Midlands Technical College. Jimmy married Alice May Allen on March 15th 1968; they were married forty-seven years. James enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years (1958—1962) and later re-enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country honorably for an additional Sixteen years (1962—1978) before retiring in 1978. After his military career, he worked for Union Camp for ten years. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Shawn Scott and Jimmy Thomas; brother, Robert Thomas; a sister, Bathsheba Thomas and a step-sister, Francis Quinny. Left to cherish precious memories are his loving: wife, Alice Thomas of Conyers, GA; children, Desmond (Lisa) Lewis of Blythewood SC, Patrick Keith (Samantha) Thomas of Lawrenceville, GA and Kimberly (Ryan) Heyward of Jupiter, FL; daughters-in-law, Sharon (the late Shawn) Scott and Ingram (the late Jimmy) Thomas of Hopkins, SC; grandchildren, Terrence and Marcus Scott and Immanuel and Isaiah Thomas, all of Columbia, SC, Christopher, Mackenzie and Cameron Heyward of Jupiter, FL and Morgan Lewis of Blythewood, SC; step-mother, Rosedell Thomas; brothers, Sinatra and Alfred (Regina) Thomas of Detroit, MI; a sister, Alfreda (Walter) Carroll of Fayetteville, NC; sisters-in-law, Patricia (the late Henry) Scott of Columbia, SC, Annie Allen of Baltimore, MD and Magnolia Thomas of Canton, NC; Brother-in-Law, Jimmy (Chris) Allen of Wilmington, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
